Things to do in La Drome

Lavender Trails

In the Provençal Drôme, there are some everywhere, but depending on their location, lavenders will bloom more or less 15 days apart. The higher the altitude of the crops, the later the flowering time. No exact science therefore, because it is nature… In case of high heat, lavender will flower a few days in advance, the best is to ask our territorial tourist offices.

Provencal Markets

Our favorite: the Nyons market, 10 mins drive from Villa Bellevue
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful markets in the region, warm atmosphere guaranteed, it is an unmissable stopover under the summer sun !
Authentic market that stretches from the arcades to the small streets of old Nyons. We find all the charm of Provence as we imagine it, olives, spices, lavender in all its forms, pottery and fabrics and many other unmissable products!

Caution… sometimes you have to park a little far away !
Nyons has two markets, the traditional one takes place on Thursdays, and every Sunday in summer, the Provençal market takes place

Wine Tasting

In the heart of the Rhône Valley wines, the Drôme Provençale is a land of vineyards par excellence.
It thus obtained the label “Vignobles & Découvertes “ in 2014, becoming the 50th French destination recognised for the quality of its wines.

The AOC of Grignan-les-Adhémar, the Côtes du Rhône Méridionaux, and the Cru Vinsobres, make the reputation of our terroir. Further east, it is the Coteaux des Baronnies that express their belonging to the Mediterranean mountain. Up to 12 different grape varieties can be grown here. The hot and dry summers, favourable to the good ripening of the grapes, and the balanced soil give this character typical of Rhone Valley wines.

Perched Villages

Most of the perched villages of the Drôme Provençale are fortified and date from the Middle Ages, 11th and 12th centuries. They are typical of Provence. Built on modest heights, but sufficient, it made it possible to see and be seen. For a long time, historians have attributed this fact to the need to defend oneself. Today, it is also suggested that local lords simply sought to gather the population to better enjoy certain monopolies: mill, oven….

Cycling

La ViaRhôna in Drôme Provençale: about fifty km of greenway
Open to cyclists, rollerbladers and pedestrians, the ViaRhôna largely uses the old towpaths (used in the past to tow boats from the shore). All facilities are also accessible to people with reduced mobility. In the Drôme, 5 sections are open to the public. In Provençal Drôme the route can be taken from north of Montelimar (from Saulce-sur-Rhône) to Pierrelatte en passant par le pont du robinet. A route of almost 50 km of greenways with a small part of cycle route, i.e. a traffic lane shared with motorists at Rochemaure. Thus, ViaRhôna offers links and variants that avoid difficult passages.
